Have a shrimp boil in Destin

The end to a perfect day at the beach is gathering around friends and family…

For a ‘aloe lotion’ party, cocktails and a good ol’ fashioned Low Country Boil featuring our delectable, freshly caught gulf shrimp. After a day on the shore, soaking in all that wonderful sunshine under a crystal clear sky, even the most stalwart member of your gang or the most fastidious about sunscreen, will benefit from a bit of cool lotion, made from the healing sap of the aloe plant. Pick up a bottle of the pure, green magic potion(we swear this stuff looks gross but it’s a MUST have when you’re staying at the beach) from the local grocery store or have our concierge service grab it for you. Then, the night before the beach, place the bottle in the unit’s fridge so that it gets nice and chilled. When you get home from the beach, break out the cool concoction and get ready to party!

What’s a party without some amazing cocktails? Head down to the Sandbar, located right on the dunes just moments from your suites, to imbibe on handcrafted cocktails and light bites. You can watch the sun go down and the fishing boats roll in on the tide, sometimes trailing pods of hungry dolphins looking for a tasty fish. Or make up a batch of grapefruit margaritas, a nod to your location.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 10 fresh mint leaves , torn in 1/2
  • 2 shots orange liqueur
  • 8 shots tequila

Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a pitcher and stir to combine. Pour over ice and serve.

We’re not sure why, but being at the beach all day makes us crave some super fresh seafood, simply prepared. Lots of fantastic eateries, serving up yummy gulf seafood, are nearby to Visionary’s many outstanding beachfront accommodations. But during the busy season, these restaurants can be loud and crowded.

We recommend taking advantage of your rental’s fully equipped kitchen to stay in with those you love and make a home cooked, seafood feast in comfort and privacy. We suggest one of our favorites, a great meal that doesn’t require a lot of time, effort, or skill to prepare… a delicious Gulf Low Country Boil. Follow our recipe for a unforgettable meal:

Ingredients

  • Crab boil, 2 teaspoons per quart of water
  • 12 red new potatoes
  • 6 (4-inch) smoked sausage link sausage
  • 6 ears corn
  • 3 pounds fresh shrimp, unpeeled

Directions
Fill a large pot with enough water to cover all of the ingredients. Add the crab boil and bring to a boil. Adjust the crab boil to suit your taste. When the water boils, add the potatoes and sausage. Cook on medium heat for 20 minutes. Add corn and cook for an additional 10 minutes. Add shrimp and cook for no more than 3 minutes. Drain and serve with warm bread with lots of butter, a crisp salad and peach cobbler for dessert.

Once the meal is finished, cleanup is a breeze…One pot meals are the best, right moms? Which means that you and your family will have more time to decide if you want to stay in to watch a movie or go out and hit up the great family entertainment, like mini golf, go karts or arcades.

So this summer, come check out the gorgeous beaches of Destin Florida and Visionary Destin’s many outstanding seaside accommodations. Call today to book your stay or find out more about the awesome adventures that await you and your family on the Emerald Coast.
